I saw this in the airport and bought it on a whim because brainland has this amazing story about it that, well, i’ll let her tell you sometime. so i bought it and the cashier lady was all worried to put it in the same bag as my Diet Coke and I got to be like IT’S OKAY I DON’T MIND! all devil-may-care, hoping everyone around me was impressed with how fucking laidback i was.

anyway i read half of it on the flight home from Chicago and oooh baby if it is not blowing me away. I already love it a thousand times more than Gilead, I already am writing DAMN in the margins and crafting blog posts about it in my head on the walk home, reciting lines from it, turning them over, wondering who the fuck won the national book award and not her?!

I kind of want to hold this book in front of my chest and stand in front of the class and tell you that I would recommend this book to anyone who has feelings and enjoys exploring them.

SO GODDAMN GOOD. And it’s my favorite kind of good: No-Real-Plot Good! I mean there is obviously, but it’s more subtle plot, more, hey we’re gonna have this history and mythology and put you guys in a room and make everything mean too much and it’ll be in the 3rd person BUT REALLY IT ISN’T ya know?! It’s all about the SHE! My favorite kind.

Who took that nat’l book award?! Peter Matthiessen? NEVER HEARD OF HIM.

Very interested in reading this now because I really loved Gilead. I thought it had a very calming, serene tone to it.
